Siw1701 based Bluetooth radio modem

Bluetooth radio modem Siw1701 Principle and Application

SiW1701 radio demodulator suits to all needs of a radio link applications. Its effective application is the Bluetooth wireless technology. The feature includes low power and cost-effective solution. It can be used in hand-held mobile phones and their accessories, office computers, laptop computers and printers, PDAs (personal digital assistants), personal Filofax and shifting media devices, digital cameras and game controllers, keyless entry and so on.

Internal structure and working principle of SiW1701:

SiW1701 use a MLF-48 package pin output. It integrates a inbuilt demodulator, which integrates data detection and timing recovery circuits. This setup is used to convert the data for transfer to an external device. The transmit process operates in a similar fashion in reverse order. Digital control functions and a programming interface provide radio modem control and a flexible interface to external Bluetooth link controllers. In order to effectively carry out power control, each part of this radio can be turned off when not in use. The master clock reference and low-power clock is used to provide clock signals for external devices and SiW1701. The output signal is GFSK modulated signals , and the chip produces an output of +4 dBm radio signal, and allows the power amplifier to control an external control signal.

(1) Radio Interface

The radio interface provides an antenna connection through external circuitry to transmit and receive the Bluetooth radio signals. Control signals for the external transmit/receive switch and optional power amplifier are available. The external RF signals are single-ended to eliminate the need for external transformer (balun) circuits.

(2) modem interface

The modem interface transfers the Bluetooth data between the SiW1701 and an external controller such as the SiW1750. The programmable interface on the SiW1701 can be set to various operating modes, depending on the desired interface usage. Internal registers handle the programming of the interface.

(3) clock signal

The 32-MHz clock is used as a reference for the RF circuits, to synthesize clocks for most of the internal digital circuits, and to supply external processors with timing signals.

(4) The serial programming interface

The Serial Programming Interface (SPI) is used to access the internal registers of the SiW1701. The SPI is a synchronous serial interface that can be clocked to speeds up to 20
MHz.

(5) Power

SiW1701 digital and analog circuits recommend the use of a single 3V power supply. In addition, the chip provides a better grounding pin  feature. The SiW1701 includes two voltage regulators. Input options are based on factors such as voltage source, where internal regulators are used, and I/O voltage.

(6) Other I / O

There are some more pins from the radio modem to use along with a variety of analog and data circuits.
